Controller

Fort Collins, CO

Soukup, Bush & Associates is Northern Colorado's largest CPA firm. We’re proud of our local, regional, and national clients, our reputation for legendary service, and our growth. Our team includes about 50 associates who provide professional tax services, audit and accounting services, valuation consulting, cost segregation studies, education, bookkeeping, and small business planning. You can find out more about us at soukupbush.com.

Given that Soukup Bush is 5-10 times the size of many professional services firms in Northern Colorado, you couldn’t be an accounting professional in Northern Colorado and not know our name. If you have steered your career towards private accounting, you may not have considered working for a firm in the public accounting space. We have an opening that could change your mind! We're seeking a Controller focused on our business.

In a typical mid-size business, the Controller would be the top financial and accounting expert. That won’t be true here. We have about 50 financial and accounting experts, many of whom are recognized thought leaders in our region. In a typical mid-size business, the Controller will report directly to the business owner or CEO. That won’t be the case here. We have eight partners. If you become our Controller, it could feel like you have eight bosses. You would!

Our Controller will oversee and be responsible for typical Controller functions, including accounting, financial reporting and analysis, outside reporting, taxes, property and casualty insurance and claims, and oversight of outsourced administrative functions such as HR, payroll, and benefits.

Candidates Who We Will Consider Will Possess:

  • At least five years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a professional services firm in business to serve clients
  • Education typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence optimal outcomes with or without line authority
  • An amazing combination of emotional intelligence, excellent communication and organizational skills, detail-orientation, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities
  • A passion for our firm, our clients, our team, and the challenge of building something for a better future.

This will not be the right opportunity for those who:

  • Want to be isolated and left alone in an office or cube, uninvolved, and disconnected
  • Do not have the drive and accountability necessary to meet the expectations of a high-performing team
  • Aren’t exceptional at multitasking and prioritizing tasks that can come from multiple sources with clear or vague direction
  • Don’t know how to be appropriately assertive while not getting their feelings hurt by others who are being appropriately assertive
  • Can’t anticipate the unspoken and often unanticipated future needs of business leaders, management, and team.

Expected Salary - $90,000 - $125,000 depending on experience.

We expect to consider applicants for this position through September 20, 2026.

This is a full-time in-office role
