At Soukup Bush, we don’t think of our associates as an important asset. We understand what assets are…items on a balance sheet that an organization owns, expends, uses to offset liabilities. Our people are not that.
Our associates are our most important investment. That shows up in how we select, onboard, motivate, manage, review, correct, appreciate, pay, and celebrate. We invest in our most important investment, believing that we’ll get the return we expect. They will too.
As the largest firm headquartered in northern Colorado, we have resources and relationships that allow our associates to chart their own path. That path might go towards tax preparation, valuation, and consulting, or audit and assurance. It could be a hybrid involving both. It won’t be up or out. A role with Soukup Bush could involve business development for those who desire to contribute in that way, though that is not a requirement for those who don’t. The point is that we provide flexibility in career direction that many firms can’t or won’t do.
We provide a more flexible schedule than might be possible in large, more corporate firms. At Soukup Bush, our associates don’t work an inordinate amount of hours during our busy season in the spring, as we limit hours worked to 60 per week. We pay overtime for the extra effort and commitment shown by our associates in serving our clients and each other. The rest of the year we hold to 40 hours a week – even during busy seasons around fall deadlines.
We give authority to our associates that allows them to fix issues rather than thinking things are just the way they are because that’s the way it’s always been. We expect our people to build lasting relationships with clients rather than being a back-office function. We do that as a team, building shared relationships with multiple associates engaged with each client. Each one of those associates may have a different role to play, but we know we can count on one another to provide legendary service that gains the confidence of our clients.
